But plaid blazers are wardrobe essentials that are especially perfect for the fall season, when I need light layers for work, travel and casual weekends. I could go on and on about why I love plaid blazers, but it all boils down to the ability to mix and match this staple blazer with various textures, patterns, colors to create stylish outfits to suit your every mood.
If plaid isn’t your thing, no worries! You can find some great minimal styling options, in my fall capsule wardrobe.

Sharing styling tips and 12 outfit ideas for you next plaid blazer outfit.
Tan Plaid Blazer + Blue Jeans Outfit

Plaid blazers can easily transition from office to off-duty. For a smart-casual weekend look, throw your plaid blazer over a simple white T-shirt and pair it with your favorite skinny jeans or straight-leg denim. Complete the look with ankle boots or clean white sneakers for a laid-back vibe. This combination is relaxed yet polished, making it perfect for brunch, shopping, or coffee meetups.
Tip: For an extra style boost, roll up the sleeves of your blazer and add a statement watch or a stack of bracelets for a carefree, fashionable edge.
Plaid Blazer + Cropped Blue Jeans + Tan Ankle Boots for a Business Casual Look

For this business casual blazer and jeans outfit, I’m leaning into the fall brown and tan color tones. This look is also perfect for casual Fridays in the office and a classy cocktail or date night look.
Tip: Experiment with earth tones like camel, olive, and burgundy to create a harmonious, seasonal palette that complements the plaid design.
Over a Silk Cami + Black Jeans

This color block blazer is by Veronica Beard. Her blazers are so well made that you can style them for years to come.
Tip: Elevate your plaid blazer by layering it over a silk cami to keep it glamourous.
Monochrome Outfit

A classic black and white outfit is always so chic and minimal. This jacket from Mango is a part of my fall capsule wardrobe. Style it with a pair of black jeans and classic black boots to complete the look.
Tip: Don’t overthink it. A Black and white look is always a classy and chic option.
Over a Sweater Dress

If you are looking to change up your plaid blazer look, try pairing it over a sweater dress. This is a chic fall combo for Thanksgiving and more. This look would work especially well with an oversized blazer.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to play with textures. A sleek blazer over a knit sweater dress adds interest to your look.
For Travel | Joggers + Sneakers

A hooded blazer is great for more casual days and for travel. Add it to your fall wardrobe and style it with cashmere joggers or wide leg sweats. Complete the look with a pair of white sneakers like these from Veja. Check out my post on how to style joggers for more outfit ideas.
Tip: A hooded blazer is perfect for elevating those travel day outfits.
For The Office with Trousers + Loafers

If you are looking for a workwear outfit, styling a brown plaid blazer with straight or wide leg brown trousers is a great professional look. Keep it all monochrome and also in the same color tones to elevate your look. Switch the trousers out for jeans for a smart casual look.
Tip: Keep the rest of your outfit simple. Stick to solid-colored bottoms and minimal accessories to balance the look.
For Casual Weekend | Leggings + Lug Sole Boots

Same black and white plaid blazer from my fall capsule, but with a casual twist. Keep it chic with a pair of black leggings, lug sole boots and a tote bag to travel in style. For more inspiration, check out my favorite fall travel outfits.

With Jeans and a Classic Tee

A classic white tee and jeans outfit with a blazer is such an easy classy statement. Blazers are an elegant way to keep your look polished with a pair of boots. Then add a sterling bag for colder days.
Tip: When in doubt, layer a blazer over a white tee. This gives your outfit a great base to style off of!
With Heels for Date Night

If you are looking for a classy date night look, try wearing a plaid blazer over a silk blouse, then add a pair of straight-leg or wide leg jeans. This is one of my favorite plaid blazer outfit ideas for chilly nights. When you want to dress up the look, add a heel and a croc bag to give your outfit a dressy touch!
Tip: Heels are a must to elevate the look, and don’t be afraid to add a bold red lip or smoky eye to give your outfit a glamorous touch.
Over a Slip Skirt or Dress

Wearing a plaid blazer over your slip dress or slip skirt is a such a chic option for spring to fall. Pair it with a tall boot or also strappy heel for more dressy occasions.
