The apple body shape is a common and beautiful silhouette that many women have, but can be challenging to know how to style. It’s known for being a body type with weight more concentrated in the upper body, broader shoulders. As well as a larger bust, and narrower hips, often paired with a less defined waist. While this body shape is unique, it can sometimes make choosing outfits that flatter your figure a bit tricky. That’s why I’m excited to share some easy tips on how to dress for the apple body shape, whether it’s for a casual day out or a special occasion. What is An Apple Body Shape

The apple body shape is all about having a fuller upper body, with a large bust, narrow hips, and a midsection that carries more weight. Unlike its similar body shape, the pear shape, which is characterized by having wider hips and thighs, with a smaller upper body, including narrower shoulders. The apple body type has wider shoulders and upper body. This gives your body that rounder, apple like shape, which is where the name comes from! If you have broad shoulders paired with slender legs and a waist that isn’t very defined, you likely fit into this body shape.

Dressing an Apple Body Shape Tips

To dress an apple body shape, the goal is to create balance by drawing attention to your best features and adding curves where needed. Today I’m excited to share some styling tips that incorporate ways to define your waist, highlight your legs, and balance your upper and lower body.

Define your waist

High waisted pants and skirts are your go to pieces. They help create curves and draw attention away from your midsection. You can also use a belt or choose tops that cinch at the waist to visually pull in your midsection. Wrap dresses are perfect for this, as they define the waist and accentuate your bust, creating a more balanced look.

Choose the right tops

Opt for longer, flowy tops that go beyond your waistline. These tops help de-emphasize your midsection and create a smoother, more flattering line. Avoid tight fitted or crop tops that draw attention to your waist. V-neck tops can elongate your neck, and sweetheart necklines can help to highlight your chest.

Highlight your legs

If you have slender legs, don’t be afraid to show them off! Skinny jeans, slim fit trousers, and skirts that draw attention to your legs can help balance your overall look. Pair them with a looser top to create contrast and keep the focus on your lower body.

Structured jackets and coats

Structured jackets with shoulder pads or defined shoulders can add shape to your upper body and help create a more balanced look. Blazers or open cardigans are also great for elongating your torso and creating the illusion of a slimmer waist.

Wide leg trousers

Wide leg trousers, especially those that are slimmer at the top and flare out at the bottom, can make your waist look smaller and create curves in your lower body. This helps balance out your broad shoulders and fuller upper body, creating a more proportional look overall.

A vertical striped button down shirt paired with jeans is a great outfit for an apple body shape. The length of the button down helps smooth out your body and adds length, while the V-neck style is flattering and elongates the neck. Jeans are always a go to as well. Opt for high waisted ones to define your waist. Then, pair them with a tucked in white tank and a belt to cinch the waist. Be sure to layer the button up shirt for a polished, balanced look.
