The right accessories can tie a whole outfit together making you feel confident and ready to rock your day. Putting the right accessories together with an outfit is what makes the statement, and it can be a great way to play with trends without breaking the bank. Today, I’m sharing how to accessorize your outfit.
When it comes to my personal style, my jewelry box mainly consists of delicate gold pieces of jewelry like a gold necklace, diamond studs, a few bangle bracelets and a cocktail ring. If I’m looking to add a pop of color I usually lean towards animal prints in my shoes or add a wide belt to my sheath dress.
How To Accessorize Your Outfit

Here is one base look from my fall capsule wardrobe and 3 ways your can change the entire outfit up with accessories.
1. Less is MORE.

It can be easy to pile on all of these pretty little pieces, but if you want that put together look I recommend sticking to 1 – 2 bold pieces max. We want to keep things simple and balanced. If you layer too many statement pieces you risk looking cluttered. So, if you love to stack on the bangles and big rings, keep it simple with a dainty necklace. For a more sophisticated look I suggest keeping it simple. However, if you are styling with a more basic outfit then the bolder you can go with the accessories.
2. LAYER IT

Shop Layering Pieces
Long, layered chain necklaces are very on trend right now, especially if you layer with a choker! They will elongate your body and add a little personality to any outfit. Style Tip: Mix 2 or 3 together while keeping heavier charms and pendants on the longer necklaces, with smaller charms and simple chains on the shorter necklaces.
3. EXPRESS YOUR PERSONALITY

A bold statement accessory can be a great way to play with bolder pieces without being too overwhelming at first. A statement necklace or pair of earrings is typically my go to when wearing bold accessories. A pair of bold earrings always pairs well with a little black dress or a neutral skin tone color schemed outfit. It takes a neutral colored outfit up one notch and created an eye-catching outfit. Have fun, be creative and express your personality.
4. Keep it Within Proportions

Again, my personal style is very neutral driven so since my outfit was simple, I made a statement with these chandelier earrings. I love that these earrings are not a basic hoop earring but still maintain a circular shape to slim your face. You could simply do the same with bright colors or a rich bold color! If you wanted to stick to super classic just add a gold necklace and your diamond studs.
Scaling your accessories to your body size will help you hit the right balance. Smaller frames can stick with small to medium accessories that reflect your petite body. Medium frames can play around with different sizes of jewelry, but if you’re shorter and want to lengthen be careful of going too big. Larger frames can stick with medium to large accessories to reflect your body type.
5. Don’t be Afraid to Re-define an Accessory

Shop Ribbons
Don’t over think the art of accessorizing. However, I’ve always wanted to be a fashion stylist so I always try to redefine ways to accessorize! Add your ribbon from your favorite luxe bag purchase is one idea that is showing above. The statement designer piece took this black and white outfit from basic to elevated with one accessory.
Remember accessories can make or break an outfit. You want to choose pieces that will compliment and enhance your look. They should be the final and finishing touches to your outfit. I’ll leave the shoes out this time, but make sure you check out my post as I’ve covered all 2020 shoes trends last week.
A few questions you should ask yourself before accessorizing.
- First, does my outfit already contain a statement piece?
- Second, what are my color tones of my look?
- Lastly, am I wearing prints or patterns?
Accessories That Can Update Your Most Basic Outfits
Accessories will tie a whole outfit together. They can make a simple t-shirt and classic denim tie a whole outfit together.
A CHAIN STATEMENT
These chunky chains are such statement pieces and will give you a little edge. However, it’s equally important to make sure you balance it with a simple outfit like this black bodysuit.

Hair Accessories
One of my favorite accessory trends for 2019 and still going strong for 2020 is headband, barrettes, ties.. These accessories are not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but as very functional. I love to keep my hair out of my face especially when it comes to this Oklahoma wind.
My favorite accessory of choice is a headband because they’re so easy to throw on or fix quickly while running around. I always suggest looking to reviews on headbands to ensure you are purchasing a quality piece that won’t hurt behind your ears or need constant adjusting throughout the day. Pair your outfit with my favorite pouch from amazon under $35. My go to for fashion forward hair accessories is Shopbop.

Dainty Jewelry
My day to day accessories are ones that can be easily styled with everything and layer upon. The best thing I find about dainty jewelry is that it is so versatile, they can be mixed with bolder pieces or layered together and they create a whole new look. Below I kept everything simple but if I wanted to elevate this outfit I could easily add two chunky bangles or layer on a few more dainty bracelets.

Subtle Statement Earrings
Nothing says sophistication and chic like a pearls. Pearls always come in and out of style which is why I always keep them as a staple in my jewelry box. I love how pearls can be added to any trendy base of an earring or necklace but still keep their class. In the second picture below I am loving these huggies because they’re on trend but still remain looking classic.

For example, above I added two huggies to one side and a single pearl on the other side.

A Fedora
Fedoras are another great way on how to accessorize style a simple and classic look. They’re also a great way to remain put together when rocking your second day hair. You should always keep on hand a quality white tank and denim easily in your closet to style a few ways. Accessories give a basic outfit a whole new look by just adding a few simple pieces.
