We are heading hard and fast into summer and during the summer months I live in denim shorts. I wanted to take a deep dive into denim shorts. From short, mid length, and long there is a great style and length for everyone. Below are what I consider the best high waisted denim shorts. If you looking for more denim inspiration check out my post on how to wear the ever so popular Wide Leg Jean.
The Best High Waisted Denim Shorts | Agolde Review
Starting with the Agolde denim shorts, these cutoff shorts I’ve been wearing for the last 3 years and last year they really gained popularity and run about $128, but I get so much were out of them. The Parker Short was the original and since then they have released some new options so I wanted to share all the details!
Agolde Denim Shorts
The Parker Short
The Parker denim short is a great option for longer lengths. I love that AGOLDE added in longer length of shorts into their denim collection. I love wearing denim shorts but hate feeling like my behind is hanging out or hate how some ride up with every step I take.
This pair of shorts were designed to have a vintage feel with a tailored look so they are super comfortable yet still insanely flattering on. They have a wider leg opening to avoid any discomfort when sitting and to avoid that ride up feeling when walking. Their inseam is elongated at 4 5/8 inches to still give the shorts a “shortie” type look while remaining covered. I wear true to size in all my AGOLDE denim but for these shorts if you still want a looser look then size up one size.
The Riley Short
The Riley short has a high rise fit with a slim leg opening. These shorts are a great choice if you have slimmer legs and want a slim fit look in your denim shorts. I like the Riley shorts when I am wearing oversize tee shirts or tanks in the summer. This way I do not look too oversized since my shorts are more fitted to my body. These run true to size and have a longer inseam of 4 1/2 inches.
The Dee Short
The Dee denim short is described as higher than high rise which I personally am a big fan of! I love the Dee shorts for beach and lake days. Since they are super high rise they look great not only over a one piece swimsuit but a two piece as well while remaining covered.
These shorts do have a closer fit around the thigh and a shorter inseam of 3 1/2 inches.

Moussy Denim Shorts
Moussy denim is a great luxury denim brand, I love their shorts due to the fact that they always fit so well. The denim brand Moussy lasts through the years and offers such classic styles that will stand the test of time.
Moussy Packard Denim Shorts
These denim shorts are a great shortie short option that stay in place, meaning they won’t ride up or stretch out as the day goes on. These shorts run true to size and there’s so many different styles for whatever vibe you’re looking for. Moussy offers distressed and clean look denim shorts.
These are a great shorts option for anyone looking for a cleaner denim shorts look. They have light distressing on the hem but other than that they are a clean look with no holes. The Bonnie short are a shorter short but hold their shape throughout the day.

Abercrombie Denim Shorts
If you are looking for something on the more price conscious side then Abercrombie is a great option for quality denim shorts. Majority of their denim shorts are around $59 and they are always having sales. Abercrombie also provides multiple length of denim based on your height and majority of their denim shorts come in multiple lengths.
Here is a breakdown of the Abercrombie Denim shorts.
90s High Rise Cut Offs
The 90s high rise are a classic vintage style and is meant to fit a little looser. These shorts have a looser fit through the hips and thighs to create a more baggy look. I would size down one size if you’re not into the super baggy look. Even with sizing down they will fit more on the loose side. I’m loving the fit of these jeans along with the detailing of the side slits on the thighs. These slits provide some extra room when seated or while walking.
High Rise Mom Shorts
These shorts have a unique fit and personally I would try buying in store to try them on over ordering them online. The high rise mom shorts are fitted through the thighs and back side for a super flattering look. Meanwhile they are looser in the hips so they aren’t too tight and will fit comfortably around your waist.
Curve Love 90s High Rise Cut Offs
These shorts are another version of the vintage 90s cut offs mentioned before. However, these are designed for individuals with a more athletic build or a bigger back side. They have amazing reviews and come in multiple lengths. These shorts have a looser fit through the hips and thighs but are true to side in the waist.
Levi’s Denim Shorts
I love Levi denim shorts because they are such a classic style and pick. They are super flattering on almost anyone and have a great price point. I also love the Levi denim lasts forever, they recently started using more sustainable practices when it comes to manufacturing their shorts and make them to last years and years. Below is a breakdown of the styles.
These shorts are the most common denim shorts seen around. They are the first style Levi’s ever came out with and are credited as inventing the perfect jean shorts. I typically size up in my Levi shorts because they are describes as “waist defining” aka they are very fitted around the waist. The 501 Original are designed to have a vintage look but with modern technology to make them last through the years. They are high rise with an shorter inseam of 2 1/2 inches.
These shorts were designed to be super high rise with a 12 inch rise. Although they have a higher rise they do have short inseam of 2 1/5 inches. These would be great for beach or lake trips or to wear with a crop tee. They have a slim fit through the leg. The ribcage shorts were designed after Levi’s straight leg jeans while their fit is describes as cutting off the leg of a pair of their straight leg jeans.
Mid Thigh Length Shorts
These are a great length for anyone wanting a longer short but not wanting a bermuda length. They’re modeled after the classic 501 Original short but with a longer inseam of 6 inches. They run true to size just like the 501 Original.
Wrangler Denim Shorts
Heritage Cut Offs
I am absolutely loving this super classic style this season! I love how these shorts having a longer inseam and a wider leg opening but remain super flattering on the body. These shorts do have a vintage look with distressed hemming and a high rise waist. Their inseam is 4 inches which in my opinion make them the perfect length, making them short but not too short.
