What I Wore in Provence: A Complete Outfit Guide for European Summer Travel

If you’ve been following along, you know I just got back from one of the most beautiful trips of my life. A week in Provence, France, staying at the stunning Airelles Gordes. Think ancient stone villages, terraced gardens, cypress trees, and rosé at golden hour. It was that kind of trip. The kind that makes you want to dress the part.

Packing for Provence took some thought. The days were warm but the evenings cooled down, and we moved between poolside lounging, village exploring, and candlelit dinners. All of which call for very different outfits. So here’s exactly what I wore, what worked, and what I’d pack again in a heartbeat.

What I Wore in Provence: A Complete Outfit Guide for European Summer Travel

The Day-to-Night Dinner Look: Sheer Skirt + Pearl Tee

My first outfit moment of the trip and honestly one of my favorites. I paired a white tee with subtle pearl trim at the neckline with a sheer, flowing midi skirt in the most beautiful warm cream/beige. What I love about this combination is how effortlessly it transitions from afternoon to evening. Also, the pearl detail on the tee does all the heavy lifting to make it feel dressed up without any extra effort.

The skirt is also incredibly lightweight and packable, which is everything when you’re traveling carry-on. Add gold studded sandals and a tan chain bag and you have a look that feels genuinely chic without trying too hard. This is my template for Provence dressing: understated, elegant, easy.

Why it works for Provence: The neutral palette feels at home against the warm stone architecture and muted tones of the landscape. Nothing too loud, just quietly beautiful.

The European Travel Essential: White Linen Matching Set

A matching set is non-negotiable for European travel. I truly believe this. There’s something about a coordinated two-piece that looks so intentional and put-together even when you’ve been walking cobblestones all day.

This white linen set with fringe trim details was overall one of my most-reached-for pieces on the trip. The fringe elevates it just enough that it doesn’t read as basic, and it also photographs beautifully against all that greenery. I styled it with strappy sandals and kept everything else minimal. It also comes in black, which is already in my cart for the next trip.

Packing tip: A matching set is basically two outfits in one, wear them together or split them up with other pieces you’ve packed.

The Poolside Uniform: Green Bikini + Printed Sarong

For pool days at Airelles, I lived in my dark forest green bikini, and I have to say, this might be the best-fitting swimsuit I own. The color is just gorgeous in person, and it photographs incredibly well (the silver herringbone necklace layered on top felt like the right touch).

The real styling trick for poolside dressing, though, is a printed sarong. I tied a pink floral one over the bikini and it instantly created a completely different, more elevated look. A good sarong is endlessly versatile. For example, you can style it with multiple different swimsuits to create entirely new outfits without adding much to your luggage. This one had a beautiful vintage quality to it that felt perfectly suited to Provence.

the Vintage Poolside Moment: Yellow Floral Bikini

My second swimsuit of the trip was a yellow floral triangle bikini, and it felt completely made for Provence. Something about the warm golden yellow and the vintage floral print just belonged against olive trees and rosé. It’s the kind of piece that photographs like a film still. If you’re traveling somewhere with Old World charm, lean into prints that feel nostalgic, they always look right.

The Sightseeing Day: Blue Stripe Coordination (A Mom Moment)

One of my favorite memories from the trip: my mom and I turned up to explore a local village in completely coordinating outfits, entirely by accident. She wore a full blue and white striped maxi dress with white sneakers and her Chanel bag; I had on a cropped blue striped shirt with a flowy white maxi skirt, my gold-studded sandals, and a burgundy mini bag.

We both died laughing. But honestly? The outfits were perfect for a day of wandering. The white maxi skirt kept me cool while the cropped shirt added some structure. This is my go-to formula for European sightseeing days: a skirt that moves easily, a top with some polish, comfortable flat sandals you can actually walk in, and a small crossbody that keeps your hands free.

The Shopping Day Look: Knit Sweater + Zara Mini Skirt

On a slightly cooler afternoon spent browsing local shops, I reached for my favorite cream open-knit sweater paired with a beige diamond-pattern mini skirt from Zara. This is one of those outfits that feels effortless but reads as very intentional, the textures play off each other in the best way, and the neutral palette keeps everything cohesive.

This is also a great example of mixing investment pieces with high street finds. The knit is a wardrobe staple I’ve had for years; the Zara skirt was a relatively recent pick-up. Together they look like they were made for each other. Burgundy bag, white sandals, sunglasses, done.

This combination is what I’d call “chic and comfortable” — the holy grail of travel dressing.

The Dinner Look: Raffia Top + Silk Pants + Amazon Scarf

My favorite dinner outfit of the trip, and the one I’m most excited to recreate: a woven raffia strapless top styled with my favorite blush-tone wide-leg silk pants, and a cream cashmere-feel scarf draped over the shoulders. The raffia top has the most beautiful pearl-trimmed detail that catches the light, and the silk pants are just everything, they move beautifully, photograph incredibly, and feel luxurious without being uncomfortable.

The scarf was an Amazon find and it genuinely looked like a luxury piece. In Provence, evenings cool down even in summer, and having something to drape over your shoulders makes all the difference between a cut-short dinner and lingering over another glass of wine. I’ll be recommending this scarf to everyone forever. Tan chain bag, stacked gold bracelets, and the whole look came together in minutes.

My Provence Packing Formula

Looking back at everything I wore, a clear formula emerged:

Neutrals as a base. White, cream, beige, and blush dominated my packing. They photograph beautifully in natural light, work against the warm stone tones of Provence, and mix and match effortlessly.

One or two statement swimsuit pieces. Invest in swimsuits that feel special — you’ll be wearing them a lot and photographing them even more.

A sarong. Always. Non-negotiable.

Lightweight pieces that pack flat. Sheer skirts, linen sets, silk pants. Overall, nothing bulky, everything breathable.

One good wrap or scarf. For evening cooldown, boat rides, or just because it looks elegant.

Sandals that can do everything. I wore the same pair of white gold-studded flat sandals with nearly every outfit. And they worked every single time.

Provence has a way of making you want to dress beautifully. The light, the landscape, the whole atmosphere of the place demands something more thoughtful than your average vacation wardrobe. I hope this gives you a real starting point if you’re planning your own trip. It truly was one of the most special places I’ve ever visited, and dressing for it was half the joy.
