The slip dress is one of my favorite pieces to style because of its versatility and adaptability to tons of different looks. It’s definitely one of the capsule pieces I continue to style year round—including the winter. Today, I’m sharing different methods and styling tips on how to wear a black slip dress for winter.
How to Wear a Black Slip Dress for Winter
The options are endless on styling a slip dress, and that’s why today, I’m going to share a few different ways that I styled it. From the office wear to dinner party couture for the upcoming holiday season, black slip dress outfits are the perfect way to elevate any look.
Chic Look
Adding a voguish fur overlay is the perfect way to stop traffic. Nothing screams chic quite like a black slip dress and an eye-catching fur coat. You can also keep it more tonal with an all black fur shawl or jacket for a streamlined monochromatic look. If you’re wearing this look around the holiday season, add a red pump for a pop of color! If you crave that bold pop of color outside of your shoe choice, a hunter green or cranberry jacket would be stunning with this slip dress as well.
A long wool coat is another great option if you want something cozy, elegant, and chic.

Classic Look
Adding a classic white button down over your slip dress is a perfect option for work. It’s a traditional and classic look that brings a modern, streamlined twist to it.
Here I styled it with my favorite Jimmy Choo black pumps and Chanel bag.
There is just something about it this look that makes it an unbeatable choice. It’s classic yet powerful, and I love this combination with the black slip dress.
Edgy Look
One of my favorite looks for when I want an edgy is this option. It’s still stylish and upscale, but the cropped jacket and shoe choice helps make it work for more casual settings. I styled a fuzzy crop top sweater with my favorite combat boots. It is a look that can easily be styled with sneakers if you want to go more casual. Crop Sweaters are so flattering with slip dresses and it tends to not make the outfit bulky.
Adding these $18 Amazon sunglasses always make the look even edgier, they are my favorite!
Take off the sunnies and you can create a more classic look. Here you can add a bold red lip to complete your sexier, edgy attire.
downtown chic look
Another edgy spin to a black slip dress outfit is pairing it with a stylish leather jacket. The black slip dress is timeless, and the leather jacket contrasts perfectly to give a structured edgy appeal.
From nice dinners to casual brunch dates, this day to night look can transition you seamlessly throughout your day. Finish the outfit off with a pair of sleek ankle boots or strappy pumps for an outfit that blends style and sophistication. You can even add a pop of color by choosing a dark burgundy leather or luxe red heels.
casual look
For a more casual daytime look that works perfectly for any occasion, pair a denim jacket with a midi slip dress. It’s effortlessly blends minimalism with everyday chic.
The relaxed look of the denim jacket tones down the dressiness of the slip, but it doesn’t take away from just how stylish and modern it really is. Opt for an oversized denim jacket for a more carefree relaxed appeal. For shoes, either sneakers or flat sandals can keep things comfortable and stylish.
cozy look
For a warm and cozy winter look, wear a black slip dress with a long sleeved top, like a chic sweater. It transforms a standard look into a staple winter outfit. The contrasting of textures between the silk dress and the knit sweater also effortlessly create visual interest.
For a more tailored look, wear a slightly cropped or fitted sweater to maintain a more polished vibe. If you’re going for a look that’s a bit more relaxed, wear an oversized sweater that emphasizes comfort. Pair the outfit with dainty layered jewelry, and a stylish handbag.
