How to Hydrate Your Skin in The Winter

The cold, dry air of winter can make you skin feel itchy and irrupted as well as the indoor heat. If you like me, I’ve noticed a big change in how dry my skin feels in the colder months.

It’s so important to keep your skin moisturized through the season because certain skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis can stem from having dry, irritated skin. And keeping it hydrated is easier than you think! Today, I’m sharing my top tips!

Exfoliation plays a huge importance in clearing dead cells building up and it’s so good for the skin especially in winter months. It gives your skin radiance by removing dull skin cells and allowing new, fresh and healthy skin cells to reach the surface.

Moisturized Religiously

Even if you are moisturizing regularly, when your bathing or showing the hot water can dry out the skin so it is key to add moisture to your face and body right after you get out of the shower when you are still a little damp. Keep it simple with staying away from fragranced moisturizers which can lead to skin irritation. Key ingredients such as vitamin E or Alo Vera will soothe and hydrate.

I personally love the Advanced Clinical’s from Amazon. It comes in 16oz, lasts forever and is $21.99 for the set! It’s hydrating and a lather it all over for cell regrowth and hydration!

Use a Humidifier and Face Steamer

Using a humidifier on a regular basis may help your skin look softer and feel smoother. It can help minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles and moisturize your skin and scalp. A humidifier can help plump up and hydrate your dry skinand relieve your dry, chapped lips.

A face steamer hydrates skin increase natural oil production as well as help your skin better absorb skin care products.

Choose Products Made for Your Skin Type

Always choose products tailored to your skin type. If you are oily skin should avoid oily products as it can lead to breakouts, but if you are drier an oil based product is amazing because it provides a protective layer for your skin and it’s natural oils.

Personally, I am dryer so I tend to lean toward heavier creams. But add in some extra hydrating masks are well during the week to help with locking in the moisture. I buy the Lapcos Hyalronic Acid Mask packs and are so beneficial and affordable.

Keep your Legs Covered

Keeping your legs covered will help lock in the moisture and not expose is to the indoor heat. And I know with our legs covered we tend to not shave as much but it helps so much with getting the dead skin cells off and making sure that moisture gets a little deeper!

Switch you Skincare Routine for the Season

My skincare routine slightly changes in the winters. I personally love heavier creams all year round but I tend do more hydrating masks, add more serums and oil based products such as a cleansing balm and face oils during the dryer months. I always add a hyaluronic acid serum to my routine and this makes such a difference. Lactic Acid is another amazon ingredienct. This Sunday Riley Good Genes is what I call a miracle in a bottle for healthy skin!

Use a Gentle Cleanser

Gentle Cleansers

I always switch to a gentle cleanser during the winters months as it does not strip. I typically go toward more creamy, gel or oil based moisturizers because they tend to be less harsh and drying. For body washes, I also love a creamy body wash and this one by Olay is my favorite! The Kopari is a clean line and rich in natural oils and is so hydrating.

If I were to invest a little more, I would use the Necessaire line specific for body. It comes unscented if you prefer and it a product worth the investment for healthy skin.

Drink Enough Water, Get Sleep and Eat Healthily

Never under estimate the importance of drinking water, eating healthily and what a good nights sleep can do not only your overall health but healthy skin too. Aim to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. Sleep is when your skin cells are renewed and repaired so its a super important part of overall health. Try and get 8 hours a night. I love this water bottle from Amazon! It is perfect to help you keep track of your daily intake and is super sleek!
